As former residents of Doral, we hope to see the city not just expand, but grow. This initiative is our contribution towards that goal. We have created an analysis of the conditions that can make NW 54th street an incubator of a cultural district for the city, and
shared it
with multiple stakeholders in the area. See the full document here.
This industrial sector of the city of Doral has a valuable opportunity for the kind of economic and cultural vitality that areas with highly similar conditions in Miami and Fort Lauderdale bear witness to. These areas have organically blossomed from the seed of integrating existing flexible industrial and semi-industrial spaces, and ensuring that adjacencies favor a pedestrian-friendly athmostphere.
Documenting NW 54th street from 87th to 72nd avenues as an example, this initiative proposes re-thinking the current industrial alley, encouraging future buildings to face the street instead of using it as a back-of-house entry given its adjacency to warehouses on the west side.
We put forth a practical way to allow a city cultural core to grow out of the linkage of two related areas, forming a corridor involving home renovation businesses and small industrial spaces with the potential to house creative industries.
In collaboration with Iuliia Fomina.
