operable devices give inhabitants expression and ownership of the architecture

Miami Beach, FL

This 6,500 SF Miami Beach residence, owned by avid paddleboarders, enjoys a rear yard with canal access. The house’s main access proposes an operable layer of large louvers which open and close. The following layer is a composition of water and vegetation features which leads to the entrance via a meandering walkway. In the rear yard, secondary sets of smaller, operable louvers control the access of natural light and add a layer of operability that is rare in the local architecture.
