Telescopic boom-suspended pods provide an option for isolation and meditation on our dependent, vulnerable, yet indifferent and ironic relationship to our living environments and resources.
This proposal celebrates the potential of Japanese architectural metabolism, an architecture that avoids the static, non-evolving and broadcasts the idea that, like the city, the building can evolve and mutate as needed.
Efficient and minimal usage of 510 square feet hotel bedroom (47 square meters) rewards users with the ability to spend nights suspended over the ocean, back turned to the beach, or floating over a natural cliff.
The overall strategy allows living units to be added. HVAC, electrical and plumbing are fixed and connected to the main components of the hotel room.
The living unit's space is minimal, however maximized by the detachable bedroom pod, by split air conditioning units and may contain portable hygiene units as needed.
The pod detaches after the resident retracts the flat tv set into the bed-cabinet and glass doors are closed (one seals the fixed unit, the other seals the pod).
