path is a catalyst of perspective

.
Replacing the Smith and Wollensky steakhouse and the House of Blues venue, the
MOVE (Museum of Vertical Experimentation)
weaves itself together between the historic and iconic Marina Towers in Chicago, to give us an interpretation of what experiencing the city can entail.
Truly experiencing the city requires walking. The same is true for experiencing a building. The Museum for Perspective and Urban Movement proposes both. The building is a museum housing mainly a path, allowing the focus in the exploration of architecture and urban context simultaneously.
The covered, glazed snaking path that is the building allows for an extension of the site. By making you walk more, you have more possibilities to observe.
Beginning at street level, the path-program takes visitors down into a venue space that floats over the river, then back up into stret level, where one is invited to continue the path upwards. The building invites to a slower experience of vertical circulation, allowing views to and from the street and the river. The angled columns evoke a metaphor of movement.
MOVE allows playful experimentation by collecting spatial experiences from the city, by evoking moments of enjoyment and introspection, and by bringing forth the effects and enjoyment of perspective offered by the city.
